Mummifying Apples

Today Rakiura continued with their science and inquiry work. Each student mummified an apple! We took an apple each and carved a face into it. After that we put it in a jar along with 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup of salt. We then rolled our apple around in the mixture. Once we had done that we labelled our jar and put a lid on top.
We had to make some observations about what our apple looked like, weighed and how big it was (width and height). We will check on our apples every few days and update our observations.
We also had to make a hypothesis about what we think would happen.
Feel free to come check out our apples! They are in the sink area in Whaea Bobbie's room.

Carving our apples.

Ready to start the mummification process!
