Lovelock have been working hard on finding out more about how New Zealanders are linked together. We have been using a map of Curious New Zealanders that we received from SchoolKit and The New Zealand Story group.
Today we picked a famous New Zealander that we admire and we wrote a letter to them. We then had to think of someone (or somewhere!) that we could send it to. The person we are sending our letters to will have to send it to someone else and so on. Hopefully our letter will get to our famous New Zealander. Here are some pictures of us writing our letters.

ASB GetWise
Today we were lucky enough to have Amy from ASB come along and talk to us about saving and managing money. We talked about what we want to save for and where the best place is for us to keep our money. Amy made it a really fun and interesting session.

Classified
Today was the big day!
We had our Skype conversation with our mystery school. We had to figure out which island the school was on (North, South or Stewart), which region the school was in, which city and then finally what the name of the school was. The hard part was though - we could only ask yes or no questions!
The other school was also trying to figure out where in New Zealand we were and what school we belonged to.
We had done a lot of practice leading up to today so it was really exciting to finally do the real thing!
We managed to guess our mystery school. We had...St Thomas School in Auckland.
Here is a link to their school website: http://www.stthomas.school.nz/. We skyped with a Year 5 class whose teacher is Melanie Topp.
We really enjoyed Classified - it was lots of fun!!

Kia Kaha
Fridays we have been using the Kia Kaha programme to learn and appreciate how different we all are and how we can come together as a team.
We looked at how a flag is used to unite people and started designing our own flags that could represent Rakiura. Look through some of the designs. We are going to be voting on them next week!
Please leave us a comment with the one you like the most.
Today we were looking at rights and responsibilities.
Here is a poster that Max and Sammy worked on.

Matariki Stars
On Thursday Snell celebrated Matariki in FIE. We had to follow some quite tricky instructions and we had to use a lot of perseverence to get these completed.

Group Work
We have been focusing on how to work in small groups in Rakiura. We have had different roles in the group and looked at how we would know if a group is working together just by looking at them.
Does it look like these groups are working together? Why?

Snell Science Experiment - Square Bubbles
This morning Snell made cubes out of straws and pipe cleaners. Once we had made these we dipped them into bubble mixture and created all sorts of different shapes including square bubbles.

Science Writing
To celebrate Science Week Lovelock did a science experiment this morning to see how force affects motion. We had to blow a ping pong ball as far as we could twice - once using a short breath and then again using a longer breath. At the end we had a competition just for fun to see who could blow the ping pong ball the furtherest - congratulations to our winner Kelsey!

Congratulations Rachel!
Today we welcomed Rachel back to our class after she had a few days off to go and get married. We wanted to welcome her back in style so we set up our own wee chapel for us to share in the experience.
Thanks must go to our lovely bakers who provided cake and biscuits and thank you to Rachel for sharing some stunning photos of her special day.

Robotic Arm Challenge
On Monday we had a technology challenge. We worked in groups to create an arm that would pick up a water bottle from 1m away. We saw some very creative thinking and great team work.
We would love you to leave a comment with any advice on how to improve our robotic arms. The biggest problem we had was how to pick the bottle up.
